Annual General Meeting

We have been in our office in Macclesfield since 2010. We remain very grateful for the support we continue to receive from Town Councils and other small grant-making trusts, particularly John Holford, which have enabled us to continue our valuable work — Thank you.

We continue to engage actively in partnerships with health visitors, social workers and other professionals in East Cheshire and have provided support for more than 80 families and over 200 children in the last year.

We are delighted to have Fiona Bruce MP as our Patron. Fiona met with families and volunteers at a recent Family Networking Day where she shared her understanding of the difficulties that being a parent can raise. She has already praised the work of Home-Start East Cheshire in a House of Commons debate and she was guest speaker at our AGM in September. Fiona is a great ambassador for our scheme.

Our preparation training course for volunteers continues to be a great success thanks to the funding this year provided by the Big Lottery Fund. We have now trained almost 100 volunteers to help families in East Cheshire. In addition to this comprehensive preparation training we have, thanks to funding from the Big Lottery Reaching Community Grant scheme, been able to offer our City & Guilds Working with Parents course.

We received a very positive report from Investors in People who have renewed our accreditation for a further 3 years.

With support from Children in Need we have been able to continue running our highly regarded Family Networking Days. These are a key element of our community-based approach and have been a great support for our families. The range of activities provided at these days continues to grow and, in addition to providing essential information on parenting, play, healthy eating, learning and employment has included sessions on topics as diverse as colour coordination, beauty therapy, belly-dancing and “eco-sew”.

We are very pleased to work with the Cheshire East Supporting People Partnership. This opens up new opportunities for us to provide our unique and valued service for more families in our community and we are enjoying working with our new colleagues.

At our recent AGM Peter Munro, Chairman, praised the work done by our volunteers who add more value than you are likely to find anywhere. Maggie Spooner, Project Manager, presented a slide show highlighting the range and depth of experience and expertise brought to the scheme by our volunteers and trustees, without whom we wouldn't have a scheme.
